Student Worker for iPhone Application Development

Within the Virtual Campfire project in the German Excellence Research Cluster UMIC of the DFG German Excellence Initiative, we are looking for a student for the development of mobile multimedia management tasks such as multimedia storytelling and multimedia tagging on the iPhone.

In the context of the DFG German Excellence Research Cluster Ultra high-speed Mobile Information and Communication (UMIC) (, the Virtual Campfire scenario has been developed together with researchers from Faculty of Architecture to support communities through modern mobile database technologies, mobile web services and Web 2.0 technologies. Virtual Campfire is an advanced framework to create, search, and share multimedia artefacts with context awareness cross communities. Hosted on the basic component the Community Engine, Virtual Campfire provides communities a set of context-aware services and mobile multimedia services to access heterogeneous data sources. Through standard protocols (HTTP and XMPP) a large variety of (mobile) interfaces can be rapidly prototyped as context-aware multimedia community information systems. Among them, iNMV is an iPhone application for multimedia creation tagging and story sharing. Spatiotemporal context information is captured at real-time photo creation process. It can be downloaded from iTunes App Store since its recent launch in April, 2010.      

Job Description
This Hiwi job tasks are pertained to further development and new release of Virtual Campfire iNMV on iTunes App Store. Main tasks focus on development of real-time mobile storytelling on iPhones, and mashups etc.

- Experience in iPhone programming or Mac programming with Cocoa and Objective-C
- Knowledge in database technologies (SQL) and XML
- High motivation for interdisciplinary teamwork over a longer period
