In the context of the European FP7 large-scale Integrating Project ROLE we are hiring a student for the development of Web Widgets, Services, and Applications as well as a distributed PLE infrastructure using XMPP as central integration and enabling technology.

In the context of the European FP7 large-scale Integrating Project ROLE (Responsive Open Learning Environments; current development efforts lead in the direction of creating a new generation infrastructure for the realization of arbitrary PLEs (Personal Learning Environments) as combinations of a plethora of Web widgets usable in life-long learning. With the central requirement of using open standard technologies, we employ the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) as important integration and enabling technology for a distributed architecture of Web Widgets/Containers supporting real-time communication and collaboration, community awareness, learning (meta)data exchange and synchronization.

Job Description
This job is focused on the development of XMPP-enabled Web Widgets, an underlying distributed PLE infrastructure as well as the exploration of new XMPP extensions, services and application scenarios. In the context of your work you will get the chance to explore new technologies (e.g. HTML5, Google Wave, etc.), participate in the implementation of an XMPP-based distributed ROLE infrastructure, and create and realize (your own) designs for innovative learning widgets, services and applications. For your work you will get access to bleeding-edge SW/HW equipment including a new high-performance cloud computing infrastructure installed at our chair and latest generations of mobile devices.
