Congratulations to Prof. Gerhard Lakemeyer, leader of the Knowledge-Based Systems Group at RWTH Aachen’s Chair of Information Systems and Databases, who was elected President of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI), for the period 2016-2018!
Fraunhofer ICT Dissertation Award for Katja Niemann

I5 graduate Dr. Katja Niemann was selected as one of the three winners of the Fraunhofer ICT Dissertation Award 2016, awarded for the best doctoral theses within the Information and Communication Technology group defended in 2015. With 17 Fraunhofer institutes and over 4000 employees, Fraunhofer ICT group is the largest applied IT research organization in Europe.
I5 Graduates Win Best Paper Award and Honorable Mention at National GI Conference "Mensch & Computer 2016"

Mateusz Dolota, Media Informatics graduate of 2012 and currently doctoral candidate with Prof. Gerhard Schwabe at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, received the Best Long Paper Award at this year’s Conference "Mensch & Computer 2016" (Human and Computer) for their paper "More interactivity with IT support in advisory service encounters". Moreover, Dr. Sebastian Franken who recently defended his doctoral thesis at Informatik 5 received an runner-up Honorable Mention with his paper "The impact of search trails on the quality of collaborative search".
Young Researcher Award at IFAC MIM 2016 Conference

Informatik5 doctoral candidate Can Sun with her co-authors Professor Thomas Rose, Claudia Colella and Jürgen Schubert won the Young Researcher Award for her paper "One small change can lead to large complexity: a first glimpse at the master data change and its impact on the semi-conductor supply chain" among over 500 submissions at the 8th IFAC Conference on Manufacturing Modeling, Management, and Control (MIM 2016) held in Troyes, France, June 28-30, 2016.

Best Paper Award at CAiSE 2016

This year, the award for the Best Paper among the 211 submissions to the 28th International Conference on Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE `16) was presented to Petru Nicolaescu, Mario Rosenstengel, Michael Derntl, Ralf Klamma, and Matthias Jarke for their paper “View-Based Near-Real-Time Collaborative Modelling for Information Systems Engineering”.

The Chair Informatik 5 celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a Symposium on Information Systems and Web Engineering on June 10. Participants were greeted by Vice Rector Bernd Krieg of RWTH Aachen University, then professors Matthias Jarke and Stefan Decker gave an overview of historical accomplishments and future plans of Informatik 5.

Informatik 5 researchers Istvan Koren and Ralf Klamma received the Best Vision Paper Award at the 16th International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE 2016) held in Lugano, Switzerland, June 6-9, 2016.

On the afternoon of Friday, June 10, the Chair of Information Systems and Databases (Informatik 5) celebrates its 25th Anniversary with a Symposium on Information Systems and Web Engineering that brings together colleagues, alumni, and international cooperation partners for a number of presentations and an informal get-together in Informatikzentrum Hörn, room AH V, and the b-it Research School nearby.
