June 10, 2016: Informatik 5 Celebrates 25th Anniversary !

On the afternoon of Friday, June 10, the Chair of Information Systems and Databases (Informatik 5) celebrates its 25th Anniversary with a Symposium on Information Systems and Web Engineering that brings together colleagues, alumni, and international cooperation partners for a number of presentations and an informal get-together in Informatikzentrum Hörn, room AH V, and the b-it Research School nearby.

Keynote speakers include Prof. John Mylopoulos, University of Toronto and Honorary Ph.D. graduate of RWTH Aachen,  and Informatik 5 alumna Dr. Stefanie Kethers, Australian National Data Service. Professors Jarke and Decker will reflect history and future of the Information Systems group. The full program with several further presentations can be found HERE. Participation in the Symposium is free but for planning purposes, we request your registration through the following link: http://dbis.rwth-aachen.de/cms/registration/symposium-registration .

The Chair Informatik 5 was founded by Prof. Matthias Jarke with Ph.D. students Stephan Jacobs (now Professor at FH Aachen) and Klaus Pohl (now Professor and Director of the paluno Software Systems Engineering Center at University of Duisburg-Essen) in January 1991. From these humble beginnings, the Chair grew to currently six professors, 7 postdocs, 22 doctoral researchers, 5 technical/administrative staff, and over 30 student assistants. Since 1.1.2000, Informatik 5 is associated with the Fraunhofer FIT institute of Applied Information Technology by five joint professor appointments, and since 1993, it also served as founder for the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it) with two additional sponsored professorships in the RWTH Aachen Computer Science Department. Since Fall of 2015, Informatik 5 is co-chaired by Professors Matthias Jarke and Stefan Decker.
