Fraunhofer ICT Dissertation Award for Katja Niemann
I5 graduate Dr. Katja Niemann was selected as one of the three winners of the Fraunhofer ICT Dissertation Award 2016, awarded for the best doctoral theses within the Information and Communication Technology group defended in 2015. With 17 Fraunhofer institutes and over 4000 employees, Fraunhofer ICT group is the largest applied IT research organization in Europe.
The award was handed out by ICT Chairman Prof. Fellner at the INFORMATIK 2015 national computer conference of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI), held in Klagenfurt/Austria on Sept. 28, 2016.
Katja Niemann wrote her thesis »Discovery of Usage-based Item Similarities to Support Recommender Systems in Dealing with Rarely Used Items« during her tenure as a researcher in the Fraunhofer FIT institute for Applied Information Technology under supervision of Professors Wolfgang Prinz and Matthias Jarke. The thesis was submitted to the Computer Science department at RWTH Aachen University and defended “with distinction” in March 2015. Dr. Niemann now continues her work in industry.
