On June 21, 2018, a symposium celebrating 50 years of human-centered computing at the Fraunhofer FIT Institute for Applied Information Technology was held at Birlinghoven Castle, Germany. Moderated by Prof. Wolfgang Prinz, over 150 participants enjoyed presentations by State Secretary Annette Storsberg, Fraunhofer President Reimund Neugebauer, Siemens top manager Armin Schnettler, Humboldt Professor Wil van der Aalst, RWTH communication scientist Martina Ziefle. During the event, Fraunhofer President thanked Prof. Jarke for already over 18 years of leadership at FIT since January 1, 2000, and awarded him the Fraunhofer Münze (Fraunhofer coin), the highest award for Fraunhofer institute leaders. He also announced that Prof. Decker, so far co-Institute Leader at FIT, switches roles with Prof. Jarke as of July 1, 2018, becoming the Managing Institute Leader while Prof. Jarke stays on as co-Institute Leader. In further presentations, Professors Jarke and Decker also summarized some important highlights from the long history of the institutes, and outlined future strategic directions.
