project eConnect awarded "lighthouse of electromobility"
The project eConnect has been awarded the title lighthouse project of electromobility (Leuchtturmprojekt der Elektromobilität) by the German Government.

On June, 20, 2012, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology
(BMWi) announced that the project "econnect Germany" has been selected by
the Federal government as its lighthouse project in the field of ICT for
electro mobility. "econnect Germany" studies the concepts for sustainable
mobility in local communities. Intelligent networking of the energy system
with the mobility systems by information and communication technology is the
main focus of the research. Smartlab GmbH, a subsidiary of STAWAG, the local
utility company in Aachen, is the coordinator of the project which also
includes six other regional utility companies throughout Germany. RWTH
Aachen participates with six institutes to this project, coordinated by the
Chair of Databases and Information Systems (Prof. Dr. Matthias Jarke).
The government based its choice of lighthouses on the definition of crucial
success factors for eMobility in its program of May 18, 2011. The choice of
a project as a lighthouse project is seen as a quality sign for particularly
important innovations in technology or cost reduction. "econnect Germany"
which funded by BMWi, is the only lighthouse project chosen in the ICT
sector.
