RWTH Aachen University Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg has appointed Prof. Dr. Stefan Decker as Full Professor of Information Systems and Databases as of September 1, 2015.
High-Tech Entrepreneurship and New Media Lab

In the next term our chair again offers the lab "High-Tech Entrepreneurship and New Media". The course combines tutorials and lectures on the development of complex information products with practical experience in start-ups on specific and typical IT-related problems of the companies taking part in the lab.

Prof. Jarke Appointed to IT-Summit Platform „Innovative Business Digitalization”

Minister of Economics Sigmar Gabriel has appointed Prof. Matthias Jarke, Chairman of the Fraunhofer ICT Group, to the committee of the platform “Innovative Digitalization of Business” within the IT Summit Process conducted since the Informatics Year 2006 by the German government. The committee brings together about 20 leaders from large and small companies, business associations such as BITKOM, BitMi, or BDI, and representatives from public bodies, to advise on strategies to promote digitalization of German and European businesses beyond the specific industrial context defined by the parallel platform “Industry 4.0”. The platform held its first meeting in Berlin on July 1, 2015.
Second in a Row (2): KBSG wins RoboCup Logistics Worldcup 2015

Repeating the success from 2014, the Carologistics project run by Informatik 5’s knowledge-based systems group (Prof. Gerhard Lakemeyer) together with other colleagues at RWTH Aachen University and Aachen University of Applied Sciences won the RoboCup world championship in the Logistics league in Hefei, China, July 2015.
Best Demo and Best Poster Awards for Yjs at ICWE 2015
Yjs: A Framework for Near Real-Time P2P Shared Editing on Arbitrary Data Types won the best demo and best poster awards at the 15th International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE) in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
W3C Europe Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Open Web Standards

On May 5, 2015, the World Wide Web consortium celebrated the 20th Anniversary of its European section with a festive Symposium at the Hotel de Ville (City Hall) of Paris. Around a keynote talk by WWW inventor Tim Berners-Lee, speakers from the EU, the French government, successful web start-ups, and NGO’s addressed the about 250 participants in the historic Paris City Hall (Hotel de Ville). Prof. Matthias Jarke attended the meeting in his role as a board member of ERCIM, the European Research Consortium of Informatics and Mathematics, which has operated W3C Europe since 1995.
