With the emerging development and impacts of World Wide Web, Web Science having information and social dimensions has been becoming a new study field in Computer Science.

This course repeats fundamental concepts (web centralities & algorithms, network models and web engineering principles) of Web Science I (WS 08/09).  We then give an overview on regular and random network models, influence, economic, and biological networks. In the following we study dynamic processes on complex networks (emergence, percolation, epidemics, synchrony, walking and searching, net gain and repeated games). In the engineering part we dig into emerging cloud & grid computing approaches like GoogleApp, Google Wave (XMPP) and Bittorrent. With the knowledge gained in the preceding chapter we can analyse and engineer advanced web applications like the Wikipedia, personal learning environments and massive 3D multimedia environments.

Announcements

On the last exercise class it was decided that the last exercise class will be on 25.01 at 11:00
The fourth assignment is online. You can find it in "Learning material" in L2P room. The tasks are devoted to emergency, epidemics and influences in networks.
The third assignment is online. You can find it in "Learning material" in L2P room.
The second lecture on 7.12 will be done by our guest Marc Smith. The topic is Social Media Network Analysis: overview of work to visualize social media using treemaps, histograms, scatterplots and social network diagrams. More information
The exercises sessions will be now a week after lectures. The next session will be devoted to "Network models" lecture and take place on 30.11.09 at 16:00
The second assignment is online. You can find it in "Learning material" in L2P room.
The first assignment is online. You can find it in "Learning material" in L2P room.
You have to submit 50 % of homework in order to participate in exam.
IMPORTANT: In order to participate in tutorials and lectures we ask you to register as participant of the course in L2P. In order to register please go to the Campus and choose "Zum klassischen Anmeldeverfahren" - you can register there starting from 20.10.2009 . Otherwise, write a mail to Zinayida Petrushyna   petrushyna at dbis.rwth-aachen.de
In order to participate in Matlab tutorial please install Matlab in your laptop and take it with you. The Matlab version you can get either in RWTH Shop or from our chair. Please contact Zinayida Petrushyna   petrushyna at dbis.rwth-aachen.de if you want to get Matlab from the chair.
If you want to upload version from RWTH Shop please make it beforehand as you need to solve some burocreacy that will take you more than a day
