Opening Ceremony for Aachen’s “Fraunhofer Center Digital Energy”
Last updated on: 08. May 2020
Fraunhofer FIT, together with Fraunhofer FKIE and professors from the electrical engineering faculty and the computer science department have started a series of major projects around the questions of stability, economic feasibility and attractiveness, technical safety, and IT security of future digitized energy distribution networks. These form the starting point for a “Fraunhofer Center Digital Energy” which brings together the necessary team of electrical engineers, software, data and IT security specialists, all the way up to the level of changing business processes under novel business models accompanying the growing chances and risks of renewable energy. The Center will be hosted in a new building on the RWTH Aachen University Industry Campus Melaten. In a ceremony held on April 28, 2020, BMBF State Secretary Thomas Rachel handed over a 5,1 mio. Euro grant for the first part of the initial planning and infrastructure set-up for the Center to the initiators Prof. Stefan Decker and Matthias Jarke. Speeches by several leading personalities from politics, research management, and business at the ceremony (in German) as well as general information about the Center and its early projects can be found under www.digitale-energie.fraunhofer.de.

Keynote at ICIS Doctoral Consortium
Last updated on: 17. Dec 2019
The International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) is the worldwide top conference for business informatics. ICIS 2019 is the first in the series to be held in Germany, attracting over 2.000 attendees to Munich. ICIS is preceded by an elaborate three-day doctoral consortium, in which forty participants carefully selected from several hundred nominations (one per university) debate their individual thesis ideas in small groups with two well-known faculty each. In addition, there is one industrial and one academic keynote talk. In his academic keynote on Dec. 13, 2019, Prof. Matthias Jarke used examples from Fraunhofer’s Industrial Data Space Initiative and RWTH Aachen’s excellence cluster Internet of Production excellence to discuss challenges and strategies for “Maintaining disciplinary excellence in an interdisciplinary world”.
