Based on specific disciplines taught at the partner universities, the aim of the project is to collaboratively create two multidisciplinary teaching courses (basic and advanced) on the topic of Augmented Reality (AR) that is suitable as specialisation in all participating fields (Computing, ICT, Media). The production of digital Open Educational Resources (OER), interactive eBooks and practical exercises, and implementation on the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) platform will foster uptake beyond the consortium.

Based on specific disciplines taught at the partner universities, the aim of the project is to collaboratively create two multidisciplinary teaching courses (basic and advanced) on the topic of Augmented Reality (AR) that is suitable as specialisation in all participating fields (Computing, ICT, Media). The production of digital Open Educational Resources (OER), interactive eBooks and practical exercises, and implementation on the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) platform will foster uptake beyond the consortium. AR provides composite views to the user, enriching the perception of the tangible, ‘real’ world with virtual visual overlays and using other sensory modalities. AR allows the real-time fusion of computer-generated content with offerings of the real world. The augmented elements provide access to information that the user cannot directly detect with their own senses, enhancing user perception which helps them to perform real-world tasks more efficiently. AR already gets a lot of traction in industry as a performance aid and training technology, or in quality assurance, at the same time receiving more attention in consumer segments. The consortium will develop scientific, technology-based and pedagogically solid course materials that will be distributed to the wider audience through digital OERs. All of the consortium partners are engaged in a variety of EU-funded flagship research projects in AR and related fields (WEKIT, TCBL, TELLME, Cr-eAM, ComPat). Therefore, they strive to share the accumulated knowledge from these projects with students within and beyond their educational institutions. The new courses will be tested within the consortium and by Associated Partners, but also open to the wider European educational community and industrial stakeholders who will be invited to join the design and validation process. Produced in English, the materials will be made available both locally on-campus and for distance MOOCs (online at no additional cost) to cover an even larger audience, including adult learners, in diverse social, economic and cultural contexts.
