Aim of the project is the creation, deployment and utilization of a pool of digital 3D anatomic models for accessing them anywhere and anytime over the Web using a standard Web browser.

In medical education, students often get access to physical anatomic models. Unfortunately, those models are not accessible anywhere and anytime, e.g. for self-learning. But, for many concrete learning and teaching tasks such anatomic models are necessary. Aim of the project is the creation, deployment and utilization of a pool of digital 3D anatomic models for accessing them anywhere and anytime over the Web using a standard Web browser. For the purpose of teaching and learning, the 3D models should be freely rotatable, zoomable and resizeable. To this end, existing anatomic models must be scanned with high resolution by advanced scanning hardware and turned into 3D models by according software.

A first prototype has been created based on the ROLE technology and after an evaluation of the intermediate goals of the project, further collaborative learning and teaching scenarios like collaborative annotations of 3D models should be realized. The project is being implemented together with the Institut für Neuroanatomie - RWTH Aachen University Clinic.
