Predicting user movements between online forum communities

Year 2016
PDF URL view

Structure of many online communities is highly unstable. Users leave one community and enter the other one changing a topic of interest, disputants and goals [9]. Such a behavior depends on dissatisfaction with a community, interest in another topic, absence of known disputants. The more users are leaving from a community the higher is a probability that the community disappears [3]. While growing communities become uncontrollable and can cause incitements [2]. Therefore, for the better support community managers and stakeholders need a system that will identify users that are going to leave or join communities. To create such a system we need to nd out features that can help to predict movements of users. The aim of this work is to use logistic regression models to detect users that will join or leave communities based on structural features like betweenness and semantic features like an emotion score.
