Avikarsha Mandal is a postdoctoral researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT and closely working with the Information Systems chair (Informatik 5) at RWTH Aachen University since 2019. He received his M.Sc. in computer science from University of Luxembourg and wrote his Ph.D. thesis “On Security and Privacy of Consensus-based Protocols in Blockchain and Smart Grid” in Theoretical Computer Science and IT Security group at the University of Mannheim. He is a privacy researcher with a background in applied cryptography. He was one of the key contributors of the first security analysis of one of the largest cryptocurrency “Ripple” to prevent double-spending attacks in its blockchain. His contributions in smart grid privacy research have been published in various reputed security conferences such as IEEE EuroS&P, Nordsec, and FNSS. His research focuses on solving security/privacy problems in real-world world IT and communication systems using suitable cryptographic and privacy-enhancing technologies.
