Learning at the workplace is to a large extent informal. Trainees often need consultations with more experienced colleagues who can answer their questions or demonstrate certain practice. This process is usually very time consuming for the more knowledgeable ones, who often need to repeat their explanations for various trainees. There is a high potential to make this process more efficient by means of technology, especially by using the power of multimedia. The aim of this work is to enhance informal learning at the workplace by using the available video annotation solutions and based on them to develop new video adaptation techniques. We intend to exploit various types of annotations and use them to provide direct access to the relevant parts of them, which depend on the current context and situational demands.

This thesis should develop a methodological approach for transforming single-user Web applications into widget-based collaborative Web applications, by conducting usability studies on existing prototypes developed by the research community. Furthermore, the concepts developed in this context should be applied and tested on a small prototype, implemented using trending Web technologies (e.g. HTML5, Javascript, etc.).
