Having the option of mobile payment is especially relevant for the area of transportation, allowing users to book modes of transportation on the go. Currently, mobile payment services in this area are credit card based and users book multiple modes of transportation separately. Booking multi-modal traveling itineraries is a new field, with new services being developed to bridge this gap.

These platforms, also called brokers provide interesting possibilities. Payment of multi-modal travel routes using an electronic or virtual currency could increase user convenience, while at the same time creating opportunities to introduce new schemes to increase the perceived usefulness of the service and increase customer loyalty by lowering barriers. A electronic payment service based extends on the existing paradigm of loyalty programs.

This work proposes a payment service that is provider-agnostic and increases motivation for multimodal travel behaviour.

Basic knowledge in electronic payment, virtual currencies and web development.
