In this thesis, a robust framework will be developed to provide near real-time collaboration beyond plain text for a scalable number of users.

The framework should efficiently cope with near real-time updates, data convergence, consistency and intention preservation. For this purpose, state of the art operational transformation algorithms  will be explored. The framework will be tested in the context of collaboration on existing projects running at I5. 

The framework should work on XML or JSON documents and provide an efficient and general solution for near real-time collaboration. Its main focus will consist of supporting near real-time updates on tree-like structures for a scalable number of users. The framework should perform on client-server or peer-to-peer infrastructures. 

As an additional goal, the framework design should allow future integration into projects for providing collaboration features,  e.g. in the context of the metamodeling framework developed in the Metis project.

Prerequisites

Very good knowledge of Javascript, Java, XML is required. Knowledge about algorithm design, modelling and IMS learning design is considered a plus.
