Development and Evaluation of Passenger and Driver User Interfaces for On-Demand Ride-Sharing Services

In recent years, we started to notice a rising number of on-demand ride-sharing services.  Unlike public transportation, they service trip requests without predetermined stations and arrival/departure times at pick-up/drop-off locations. This nature of the service leads to different requirements for mobile application and Web API development compared to, e.g, traditional bus services. The objective of the thesis contains
- requirements engineering, use case identification and definition for ride-sharing services,
- design and implementation of APIs for backend-driver and backend-passenger communication,
- design and implementation of APIs in the existing backend, that processes passenger trip requests and solves the routing/scheduling problem,
- design, implementation and evaluation of mobile application prototypes for the driver (dashboard / monitor / touchscreen) and the passengers that communicate with backend using the aforementioned APIs.

Prerequisites

The student should have strong Java knowledge, since the backend is written in it.
