A business model is an abstract model of the business of one or more cooperating organisations. It is a conceptual and architectural implementation of a business strategy and the foundation for the implementation of business processes and information systems. The research objective of this thesis is the design, implementation and evaluation of an interactive tool for the engineering of a business model.

 

 

 

Research on business modelling has witnessed a change of perception from money earning logics, via process and actor-oriented perspectives in electronic markets towards value generation. Hence, one of the core concepts is the value proposition towards customer groups and segments as well as its implementation by partner networks.

The research objective of this thesis is the design, implementation and evaluation of an interactive tool for the engineering of a business model. The engineering of a business model ranges from an ideation with a creative generation of opportunities, via a formalisation on the basis a meta model for a formal representation, towards the analysis strengths and weaknesses. The thesis’ topic revolves around the development of a meta model as technical basis. Moreover, interactive guidance for ideation and formalisation is requested in order to support entrepreneurs in refining and implementing business strategies. Current methods and tools for business modelling fell short in this interactive support. They can be characterised by their meta plan-oriented methods that are geared towards brain storming approaches although tools for the use of the business canvas by Osterwalde are emerging.

A potential source for the ideation is a set of patterns for business models.
