In the case of learning it is extremely important to understand what the person really want: what are the intensions/motivations, what are the needs and reasons. In order to understand the goals of communities one analyse the members of communities and based on the trends of their desires can make particular conclusions about community learning goals
The task of goal extraction may includes tracking behaviour of learners, the content they generated, their positions in graph representation of their communities. As a result of the work, you have to find the most occurable patterns in the communities and visualize them with the help of a modelling framework like I*.
