The technical evolution of smart phones and their wide-spread use for casual, mobile games makes these devices an ideal platform for mobile learning games. Especially target groups that are not well-equipped with laptop- or desktop computers and that are not self-motivated for learning tasks could benefit from mobile learning games. Your task will be to specify and develop a re-usable, mobile learning game engine for the android plattform and a corresponding server component. The game can operate in single-user mode (offline) and multi-user mode (online). The game-engine is content independent, i.e. it can handle tasks in a specified, exchangeable format. The engine should combine several game-patterns that can be varied according to the following examples: • Competition (online): a task (e.g. multiple choice question) is distributed to all online users. Only the first few correct answers score • Time restricted answer (offline): a task is given to the user. Correct answers within a timeframe are counted • High score lists can be retrieved (online)

The applicant should be interested in e-learning and game-based learning and have experience with Java programming.
