Schema matching or ontology alignment is the process of identifying corresponding elements in two given schemas or ontologies. Schema matchers usually compute first a degree of similarity for all element pairs (one element from each schema in each pair). In a second step, a single mapping is chosen to be the best mapping for each element using some ranking or filtering strategy for the computed correspondences.

This thesis addresses the problem of selecting a set of correspondences (pairs of matching elements) from the computed similarity values, such that the correspondences describe best the relationships between the two schemas.

Ranking and filtering algorithms have been presented in related work to overcome the problem of selecting the right correspondences out of a set of computed similarity values. The model management system GeRoMeSuite adapts also some of these algorithms, but the algorithms used so far are rather simple and a thorough evaluation has not been made. Therefore, this thesis aims at extending the ranking and filtering algorithms in GeRoMeSuite and evaluating the algorithms with various data sets.
