Whether (or not) generative AI such as ChatGPT is a threat to education and training outcomes is the subject of empirical investigation. There are competing claims on both sides, i.e., those who think ChatGPT is not a threat to education and training outcomes, and those who think otherwise. ChatGPT can be a useful tool for enhancing the learning experience as it provides information and answers questions that could help students learn and explore new topics in a more engaging and interactive way.

On the other hand, as the output of ChatGPT is often erroneous, inaccurate or spurious, it could be misleading to students that learn new topics. However, these inaccuracies could also help the student to explore more and learn better.

Below are objectives of this thesis:

  • Investigate potential (positive and negative) effects of Large Language Models (LLMs) on education/learning outcomes.
  • Empirically evaluate these effects.
  • Derive recommendations to deal with the negative effects of LLMs on education/training/learning outcomes
