A Research Agenda for Mobile and Pervasive Healthcare -
Prof. Upkar Varshney

Pervasive healthcare can be defined as healthcare to anyone, anytime, and anywhere by removing locational, time and other restraints while increasing both the coverage and quality of healthcare. The broad definition includes prevention, healthcare maintenance, personalized health monitoring, incidence detection and management, and, emergency intervention, transportation and treatment. In this talk, pervasive healthcare technologies and applications, including health and medication monitoring, telemedicine, and various health records, will be presented. The roles of QoS, sensors and mobile networks, and context and location-awareness in healthcare will also be discussed. Many research problems related to the quality of data, cognitive load and decision making in healthcare will be discussed. The challenges and solutions related to the elderly in the independent living are also included. One of the goals of this talk is to create a forum for research in this area by setting up a broad research agenda.

Biography
