DBIS AmpelGrader on LAK’26

May 8th, 2026

The DBIS team presented Ampel-Grader: Traffic-Light Feedback for Self-Regulated Learning in Digital Exercises at the International Learning Analytics and Knowledge Conference (LAK’26) in Bergen, Norway, from April 27th to May 1st, 2026.

Developed during the digitalization of the Databases and Information Systems bachelor course, Ampel-Grader provides students with partial, color-coded feedback (red: not passing, yellow: exam admission, green: bonus) on automatically graded homework before final deadlines. This allows students to self-assess and improve without seeing full solutions.

At LAK’26, the team shared the tool’s design, its application in teaching, and insights from comparative analyses of student performance before and after its introduction. A Learning Analytics Dashboard was also demonstrated, offering instructors real-time insights into student progress. User surveys confirmed the tool’s effectiveness as a low-cost, real-time feedback system that enhances learning outcomes while reducing instructor workload.

The presentation highlighted Ampel-Grader’s role in fostering self-regulated learning and addressing challenges posed by rising student numbers and limited resources.
