We are looking for a highly motivated master’s student to work on an innovative project for their master’s thesis as soon as possible. The project involves investigating existing decentralized oracle networks (DONs) for verifiable credential (VC) verification and evaluating their integration with Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) infrastructure.

Overview:
This Master’s thesis aims to investigate existing decentralized oracle networks (DONs) for their suitability in verifying verifiable credentials (VCs). The research will include a technical assessment of existing solutions and their integration possibilities with Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) infrastructure. If no suitable solution is identified, the student should design and develop a proof of concept (PoC) for a specialized DON tailored to VC verification.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of Research Proposal:
- Develop a structured research proposal following the guidelines provided.
- Present the proposal for approval for thesis registration.
- Investigation of Existing DON Infrastructures
- Conduct a comprehensive review of existing DONs that support verifiable credential verification.
- Assess their technical capabilities, limitations, and integration potential with SSI infrastructure.
- Design a Special-Purpose DON (if needed):
- If no practical solutions are found, propose a design for a special-purpose DON specifically for verifiable credential verification.
- Develop a conceptual architecture and technical specifications for the proposed DON.
- Proof of Concept (PoC):
- Implement a PoC demonstrating using the existing SSI infrastructure at Blockchain Labor (if feasable) how a special-purpose DON could verify VCs.
- Evaluation of Proposed Solution:
- Assess the feasibility, technical challenges, and effectiveness of using DONs for VC verification.
- Provide recommendations on whether selected concept is a viable solution and under what conditions it can be effectively used.
- Thesis Report and Presentation:
- Document the entire process, including:
- Review of existing DON infrastructures.
- Design and functionality of the proposed special-purpose DON (if applicable).
- Implementation and results of the PoC.
- Feasibility evaluation and analysis of challenges and recommendations.
- Challenges, risks, and future opportunities.
- Prepare the final thesis and present it to the evaluation committee.
Application Process: If you are interested in this opportunity, please send your CV and transcript of records and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and motivation for the project to selin.sezer@fit.fraunhofer.de.
Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to receiving your applications and working together on this exciting project.
