Sovereign Data Exchange

December 20th, 2021

In this lab, we will apply these technologies to some data exchange/data sharing scenarios. Students are expected to develop a complete workflow for a data exchange, including data preparation, policy definition, apps for enriching data, etc.

Type Lab (advanced level)
Term SS 2022
Mentor(s) Christoph Lange
Assistant(s)

Information exchange between different companies is getting more important in an inter-connected world. For example, with increasing specialization in production technology, production processes are not performed with in one company; they are distributed across several sites and semifinished goods are exchanged along the supply chain. However, not only the goods should be exchanged, also the information that is related with the development and production should be exchanged. However, not all information should be made available, companies only want to reveal only a small part of their data and still keep control on the released data. To achieve data sovereignty on a technical several initiatives have been established:
International Data Spaces
Gaia-X
Solid
In this lab, we will apply these technologies to some data exchange/data sharing scenarios. Students are expected to develop a complete workflow for a data exchange, including data preparation, policy definition, apps for enriching data, etc. Students will work in teams of four students. During the term, students are expected to report the progress of their team project in regular meetings.
Learning Objectives
Students are able to design complex data exchange workflows
Students learn to create data exchange applications with state-of-the-art data exchange technologies
Students can handle semantic technologies to describe and to enrich data management applications
Students understand the complexity of sovereign data exchange
Dates and Times
The lab will start with a kick-off meeting at the beginning of the term. The exact time and date will be announced in March 2022. Regular meetings are planned once per week, time and location for these meetings will be discussed in the kick-off meeting.
