The Data Stream Management and Analysis research group at RWTH Aachen University is engaged in researching and prototyping new architectures and methods for processing and analyzing data streams. We also consider these research topics in the broader context of data ecosystems and investigate important aspects such as data quality, data transparency, and data sovereignty. The group works across disciplines, but especially in the application areas of smart manufacturing, industry 4.0, and health. The research group is located at the Chair of Computer Science 5 and works closely with the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT.

Our group cooperates closely with European academic and industrial partners in international research projects for developing innovative IT solutions. We are currently looking for student assistants to support our research in developing software for data analysis and AI platforms. Your responsibilities will include development of AI services and integrating them with the existing solutions, as well as the data modelling required for such integration.

Moreover, you will have the opportunity to participate in scientific publications related to your tasks as well as the preparation of your master thesis.


You hold a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related subject. Furthermore, you possess excellent writing and communication skills in English/German as well as the ability to work in a team.

We expect the following technical skills:

  • Good programming skills (e.g., Python, Java is a strong plus)
  • Diverse data storage and management systems (relational and non-relational)
  • Experience with Git version control
  • Preferably working with RESTful APIs
  • Experience with Docker, testing tools
  • Interest in / experience with knowledge graphs, semantic web technologies
  • Interest in time series data analysis and AI platform development
