HiWi Position for WestAI Project

Are you creative, committed, and want to gain practical work or research experience in an AI-oriented project? As a participant in the AI service center WestAI project, our team is looking for a student to support our AI research and AI services development.

Your tasks include:

  • AI Resource Hub Enhancement:
    • Work on extending information models and introducing semantic information for assets, ensuring top-tier resource usability.
  • Development of components that enable interoperability in decentral data infrastructures, following the Gaia-X and International Data Spaces (IDS) standards:
    • Continue the refinement and development of IDS/Gaia-X infrastructure components (“federation services”).
    • Keep pace with, and harness, advancements in usage control, data sovereignty, and federated data processing from the Gaia-X ecosystem.
    • Explore and enhance privacy-preserving federated machine learning techniques in WestAI, leveraging Gaia-X for optimal interoperability.
  • Research on Knowledge Graphs and Large Language Models:
    • Dive deep into the intricate aspects of Knowledge Graphs and Large Language Models. Stay updated with the latest trends, methodologies, and advancements in these areas.
    • Depending on the research findings, assist in building initial prototypes or models to validate theoretical outcomes.
    • Ensure thorough documentation of research processes, methodologies, and findings for internal use and potential publication.

Prerequisites:

What you bring to the job:

You are enrolled in Computer Science (bachelor or master) or a neighboring field at RWTH Aachen University and bring a passion for application-oriented science to the job. In addition, sound knowledge in one or more of the following areas is required:

  • Knowledge in the area of machine learning models (especially deep learning).
  • Knowledge in the areas of semantic technologies and knowledge graphs.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python, experience in deep learning frameworks and libraries, such as PyTorch, PyG, Transformer and libraries from HuggingFace, LangChain and LlamaIndex.
  • Experience with graph databases and query languages, such as BlazeGraph, Neo4j and SPARQL, Cypher.
  • Experience with software development and deployment tools and practices, i.e., GitHub/GitLab, CI/CD, and Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Experience with teamwork, ideally also in changing teams and deadline-driven projects.
  • Very good knowledge of German and English, both written and spoken.
