Escape Games or Escape Rooms are physical adventure games in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints, and strategy. They have become quite successful in secondary education, since classrooms offer good implementation possibilities. Mixed Reality is the merging of real and virtual environments where physical and digital objects interact in real time. Based on our Mixed Reality framework for gamification we want to explore the design and implementation of escape rooms in collaborative educational settings. The framework uses a mix of Microsoft Hololens, HTC Vive, Oculus Quest 2, smart phones and tablets to realize mixed reality applications. The Mixed Reality framework is based on Unity. After having successfully released escape rooms for single players as open source software, we now want to research and develop escape rooms for more than one player. We expect prospective students to be familiar with the development environment.
